In line with the rebranding of the Human Resources Department Training Institutions (ILJTM), the name of the Industrial Training Institute Tangkak has been changed to Advanced Technology College (ADTEC) JTM Tangkak Campus, effective June 23, 2025. Initially, ADTEC JTM Tangkak Campus was known as the Industrial Training Institute (ILP) Muar, as Tangkak was part of the Muar district, separated by the Muar River.
In 1998, the construction of ADTEC Tangkak began as a technical training institute under the Human Resources Department, Ministry of Human Resources, on a 50-acre site near Sagil town. Developed under the 7th Malaysia Plan, the objective was to provide formal technical training to school leavers and industry workers. The institute officially commenced operations on October 13, 2000, with the first batch of trainees admitted on January 8, 2001. The total cost of development, including buildings and equipment, was RM170 million. The official opening ceremony of ILP Muar (at that time) was held simultaneously via video conference by the Deputy Prime Minister, Dato' Sri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, at ADTEC Shah Alam, and was officiated by the Chief Minister of Johor, Dato' Hj Abdul Ghani Othman, at ILP Muar on January 11, 2003.
On June 9, 2008, the Tangkak district was declared a full district and renamed Ledang District. In line with the district name change, the institute's management agreed to change the name from Institut Latihan Perindustrian Muar to Institut Latihan Perindustrian Ledang. However, the district name was later changed back to Tangkak, effective January 2016, and the institute's name was subsequently changed to Institut Latihan Perindustrian Tangkak.
Referring to the Ministry of Human Resources letter No. KSM/PSM/500-1/3/15(35) dated June 15, 2016, the name change was officially gazetted in the Johor Government Gazette on December 17, 2015.
